The home-care side, yes — shampoo, conditioner, serum, sunscreen, cleanser and moisturiser are sold at the salon, and you are told the brand rather than just the category. Three items is the most anyone leaves with, because a longer routine is one nobody keeps. The professional side is not for sale and does not go home with anyone: developer, bleach, professional colour and salon-only peels or acids need a diagnosis and a trained hand behind them, and at home they do harm rather than good. You are never required to buy from us — the specification is given to you either way.

In two cases, yes: a cream a doctor has prescribed for you, and your own cream for sensitive skin. Babita reads the ingredients before either goes on, and once she has, it is used during the service. Anything else you bring is not used — the salon's own products are, because those are the ones tested here and known here. Separately, and this does not change: a steroid cream or a course of acne medication in current use means nothing is done to that skin on the day it is disclosed.

Two honest reasons. Sometimes the right product for your hair or skin is not in stock that day, and starting with the wrong line is worse than waiting. Sometimes the hair needs washing or a home routine correcting first so what we are judging is the real condition, not build-up sitting on top of it. Either way you are told which it is, and what happens next.

Whenever the problem stops being a salon's to solve. On skin, that means cystic acne, pigment that is spreading quickly, any rash, redness that does not fade when pressed, and a mole that has changed — and it also means skin that has shown no change after a course here. On hair, it means hair fall traced to thyroid, low iron, a recent fever or a delivery. We would rather not treat than damage, and where there is doubt you get the name of the problem rather than a booking.
